To sign up for the video call service Skype, touch 'sign in' in the upper right corner. If you have a Skype account touch 'my account' or if you need to set up an account touch 'sign up'.
It will ask your mobile phone number, you then need to create a password, then submit your first and last name.
It will then text a verification code to your phone and you will need to input this.

To set up a Zoom video call account, touch 'sign up', or 'sign in' if you already have an account (use email address and password).
To sign up, it will ask your date of birth, then your email address, first and last names. They will then send a confirmation to the email address. Hit the 'sign in' button in the email, which will bring you back to the Zoom sign in page.
Here you submit your email (username) and give yourself a password. It will ask you to type out the hard to decipher 'captcha code' in the box and you're all signed up.
To start a video call, touch on the 'schedule' box. Choose when 'starts', then hit save. Then go to the 'meetings' tab on the left and click on the newly set meeting, touch 'add invitees', then 'copy to clipboard'.
Then either email or message this link to whomever you would like to have a Zoom call with and click on the 'meetings' button on the left and click on 'start' at the arranged time.

If you are on Facebook, to sign in you just submit your email address and Facebook password and the app will take you directly to your page and remember the link for future visits.
If you are new to Facebook and want to establish an account to keep in touch with friends and family, touch 'sign up for Facebook'. Submit your first and last name (so friends can find you), put in your birthday and gender. Add your email address, then create a password and touch 'sign up'.
They will email a confirmation, you input this and touch 'submit'. All done.
You can now go to the 'search Facebook' bar at the top and type in names of friends you would like to connect with, then touch 'add friend' and begin to reconnect and build up a Facebook friend group.
You can add a picture, your home town and other information that you are comfortable sharing to help people find you on Facebook.

Instagram and Facebook are both owned by Meta, so you can easily establish an Instagram account by inputting the same email address and the same password you used for Facebook and they tick the box to link Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Or if you want to set up a separate account, touch 'sign up', then add your email address, full name, a user name and password.
The next page will ask for your birthday and they will send a confirmation code to your email address which you submit in the box and you are now on Instagram.

X (formerly known as Twitter) is a social media platform where you can follow news, sports, politics and other interests. To sign up, touch the "Create account" button.
Enter your name, phone number or email address, and date of birth. They will send a verification code which you input and then create a password.
You can then add a profile picture and brief biography but you don't have to. You now have an X account to follow interesting people or topics that match your interests.

WhatsApp is a free messaging and video call app owned by Meta (the same company as Facebook and Instagram). It is very popular for staying in touch with family and friends.
WhatsApp requires a mobile phone number to set up. Download the WhatsApp app from the App Store (iPad/iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).
Open WhatsApp and enter your phone number. They will send a verification code via text message — enter this code to verify your number.
Add your name and a profile photo (optional). You are now ready to message or video call anyone in your contacts who also uses WhatsApp.
To make a video call, tap the "Calls" tab at the bottom, then tap the phone icon with a "+" sign, select a contact, and choose the video camera icon.

Google Meet is a free video calling service from Google. If you have a Gmail account, you already have access to Google Meet — no extra sign-up required.
To start a meeting, go to meet.google.com and sign in with your Google (Gmail) account. Touch "New meeting" and choose "Start an instant meeting" to begin right away.
To invite someone, copy the meeting link and send it to them by email or message. They can join by clicking the link — they don't need a Google account to join your call.
To join a meeting someone else has set up, click the link they sent you, or go to meet.google.com and enter the meeting code (a series of letters with dashes).
Google Meet works in your web browser — no app download is required.
