  • To sign up touch "get started", you need to allow Lyft to use location tracker which the app uses to know where to pick you up from.
  • Input your mobile phone number and input the 8 digit verification code that is texted. Then input your name and then your email.
  • The location tracker knows where you are so it only needs you to say where you want to go. It will then calculate the price and estimate the arrival time. You choose whether you want a regular car (3 passengers) or an XL (5 passengers).
  • Once you select the car you add payment details.
  • Lyft is designed for smart phones, so while you can use the tablet to book the ride and go one way, unless you take the tablet and get WiFi to book it to return you may need to install Lyft on a smart phone for the return journey.

Uber

  • Uber is a ride sharing company that matches passengers with vehicles online.
  • To sign up you touch "get started", enter your mobile phone, you will receive a 4 digit code which you input.
  • The app is designed for mobile phones and requires you to access the location. This is how it knows where to pick you up from.
  • You now input where you would like to go and it estimates the time for the car to pick you up and how much the ride will cost.
  • At this point you confirm the ride you want (X for 3 passengers and XL for 5 passengers) and input your credit card details.
  • You can book the ride on the tablet but will need your tablet and access to WiFi to book a ride home. Alternatively have the Uber app on a smart phone for the ride home.

Ride Guru

  • The Ride Guru site is a search engine for rideshares, taxis and limos across Canada, the US and around the world.
  • On their site you type in your start location in the box and below that the end location in the next box and touch the box "GET ESTIMATES".
  • This will bring choices from Lyft, Uber and local taxis with estimated prices based on 4 people. If it is for more people or for a booking later (limos) there is a box above the estimates to touch.
  • If you are happy with the price, you touch only one box "HAIL" or "CALL TAXI".
  • The HAIL option will direct to Lyft or Uber's app and the CALL TAXI button will give you a comprehensive list of local taxi options.
